Fearless Fourteen

Today has been a very good day. There have been many many reasons for my giddy mood. Home taxes for the flood. Our good neighbor insurance agent did FINALLY give me the coverage I need to protect my family. I didn't buy $315 worth of books from the traveling book kid. The kids have been surprisingly nice to one another. Jonas' homework was soooooo easy that he got 3 full pages done. See many happy occasions today. However the best part of the day... Fearless Fourteen arrived. Just minutes ago. I can't wait to read it! I am considering taking off to Starbucks tonight to get in a few hours of reading. Or maybe I will just lock myself in my room. Whatever I do you can bet that the kids won't be fed, bathed, or dressed until I finish it:) Adios!

My book list ...from the last 10 weeks

I refused to let myself start another book without first telling you why my posts have been short. My commenting limited. Computer time at an all time low.
This is what I have been reading for the last 10-12 weeks.

The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich

To be fair I need to add the other 3 books I have read which I only read to pace myself on the Stephanie Plum books, since Fearless Fourteen doesn't come out until June. OMG what am I going to do until June? The 3 between-the-numbers novellas are short, possibly 2 days worth of reading there and that is IF I take my time. Oh, so anyway, I also read
Two Little Girls In Blue by Mary Higgins Clark(which was a huge mistake and in all honesty I skimmed most of this book because it is about 2 sister being kidnapped. Just not the sort of book I need to be reading.)
White Hot by Sandra Brown
Ricochet by Sandra Brown

Click on the above 3 books, you will see it takes you to www.paperbackswap.com If you haven't heard of it or tried it before and are a reader it is something to look into. Basically you pay to ship your books to other members, which gives you credits to find books you want to read, you request a book and that member pays to ship it to you. It seems to be worth it overall. I joined in January. I have had 3 books sent to me and have paid just over $5 in shipping myself. You can list any kind of book. I have several children's books listed. I have found cookbooks and how-to books. There is something for everyone. They also allow hardcovers and audio books.

That's what I have been doing for the last several weeks. Reading reading and more reading!

Magic Tree House Book 1 -guest review

The book Dinosaurs Before Dark was great!
The kids are walking through forest and they find a tree house. Annie climbs up the tree house and Jack doesn't want to go in he calls Annie a few times. She pokes her head out of the window. Jack and Annie look at books. Jack looks in a dinosaur book. He sees a picture of a pteranodon. He says "I wish I could see a real pteranodon " The tree house spins really fast. Then they stop silent.
Then Annie said "Ahhh look there's the monster." Jack looked out the window and saw a real live pteranodon.
Annie climb down the ladder. Jack said "Annie what are you nuts." But she still climbed down. She got on the ground close to the pteranodon. She was petting him telling Jack the pteranodon was nice. Jack climbs down the ladder says "oh man" and then pets the pteranodon.
He thought about scientist write down what they did so Jack starts writing down notes like a scientist. Then they see a real live triceratops. Jack won't let Annie go close to it, talk to it, or pet it, but she didn't listen. Jack found a gold medallion The triceratops walked away.
Annie climbs a hill to pick flowers then they see a bunch of duck billed dinosaurs in mud nests.
Then they see a mama duckbill dinosaur. Nothing happens in that part.
Annie says "Jack you forgot your pack on the hill" he runs back to the hill and sees a real t-rex. He sees the T-rex open and close his teeth, the teeth were as big as Jacks arms. Jack says "Think don't panic." Then the T-rex roars and Jack booms to the ground then the pteranodon puts his shadow over Jack. The pteranodon comes down to get Jack but Jack is worried he is too heavy. The pteranodon picks him up and Jack holds on tight. After the flight he came to the tree house. Jack felt a little dizzy then he said "I wish we could go back home." Then the tree house spinned really really fast then it was silent. They heard their mother calling and they yelled "Be there in a minute."
Annie asked what happened when he was with the t-rex. Jack said he found medallion and it had a M and Annie thought M stands for Magic person and the tree house must belong to a magic person.

The End!

Oh-- they are going to go back to the tree house the next day.

Daddy and I read 2 chapters every night. There were 10 chapters! The next book we will read is The Knight At Dawn.

*I should say something funny like the views and opinion expressed in this post are those of the reviewer and not the opinions of the blog owner BUT it would be a lie. Anything that makes a kid want to read is ok with me!! Plus it could be so cheesy that it isn't funny and we all know how hilarious I am without help.
Not a bad book report for a 5 year old. I have no idea how accurate it is to the story but he certainly kept me entertained.*

books books books

We made our weekly trip to the library today. I was worried all week about when we were going to go AND how we were going to get there. It is SO HOT here! We wouldn't be able to handle the 1.25 mile walk even in the morning. I knew the walk would make me irritable and it would be even harder on the 2 little ones I would have in tow. So how were we going to get there? I thought I had lucked out when Steve stayed home from work today with an upset stomach. I can drive the kids! yippee! Even better(or so I thought) Steve was feeling better after the cable guy left and he was able to come too.

So we loaded the kids into the HOT car and headed to the library. Ady was excited for Daddy's 1st time. She brought a duffel bag and a purse! The kids were wonderful, as they always are at the library.
Jaden had his required "must poop at the library" diaper
Ady had her must ask the librarian for a book about a character, so the librarian can make snide comments to mom. Like "these characters are popular because parents let their kids watch TV, so the books are rarely in" or "I'll look (for Strawberry Shortcake) but don't hold your breath" I had my moment of peace where all was right with the world and if you listen carefully you could here...silence! AHHHH it is a wonderful moment every week.
Then there was Steve.
Steve had not been to the library to partake in all the booky delight! He was reluctant to go but had no problem finding 4 books and a dvd for the kids! Not to mention the misc. other cool and awesome stuff. "They have free WIFI! OOOOO WIFI!" "I don't think our kids are ready for this but look at this cool pyramid book. It is so awesome!" He was a kid in a candy store...or library if you are like my kids:)
The problem came when it was time to leave and I not only had to round up 2 kids but their dad too. Then we go to check out the books and I lose Steve. So here I am carrying a stack of books and dvds trying to keep track of Ady and locate my toddler son and his father. Next time Daddy and the kids can go to the library. I am staying home!

Don't forget you can check out all the great books the kids are reading in the sidebar. --->

Calling all book readers

This post has been a long time in the making. Steve posted about Kevin Henkes a couple months ago, and now Kiddley has a post on their family's all time favorite books. With over 800 books and still growing, I decided to share my all time favorites. Since I could go on and on about this for days I will keep it at 10 favorite bedtime reading books. These are kid tested and Erin approved:)

1. Guess How Much I Love You-Sam McBratney
2. Care Bears What Makes You Happy
3. Counting Kisses-Karen Katz
4. Owen - Kevin Henkes
5. Chrysanthemum-Kevin Henkes
6. The Napping House-Audrey Wood
7. Baby Angels- Jane Cowen-Fletcher
8.Goodnight Moon-Margaret Wise Brown
9. Llama Llama Red Pajama-Anna Dewdney
10. Kiss Goodnight-Amy Hest

OK I hang my head in shame...I couldn't keep it at 10. I have just a few more to mention.
We have several storybook Treasury books, these are terrific for variety. Adylynn LOVES Disney Princess Storybook and Jonas likes the Beginners Bible Treasury. We also own Disney Storybook, Care Bears, Bartholomew Bear 5 Toddler Tales and a Dora Big Book of Stories. Both kids enjoy hearing bedtime stories from these books.

*and the winner for most links in one post.....................ME:)

The Book Pile

Adylynn has REALLY gotten into reading. She likes to pick out bunches of books, then she sits down to read. She calls it her book pile.
She does pick up her 'book pile" when asked so, I don't have too much to complain about. Hopefully this new love for reading will stick with her. Posted by Picasa
